Dr Raghu Ram highlights his “living bridge” experiences between the UK and India
Largest annual Congregation of Surgeons in the British Isles
Dr. P. Raghu Ram, Director, KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Centre for Breast Diseases is the only surgeon from Indian Subcontinent invited to have delivered a Guest Lecture on “Delivery of care in resource limited setting” at the 100th Annual Congress of The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland (ASGBI), which is being held on a virtual platform from 4 – 8 May 2021.
Established in 1920, ASGBI is a world renowned Organisation that represents Surgeons practicing the art & science of Surgery in the UK & Ireland, which is organizing its Centenary Congress this year, as it could not be held in 2020. Over 1000 surgeons from all over UK & Ireland are participating in this four day Scientific Congress, which is the largest congregation of surgical fraternity in the British Isles.
Dr Raghu Ram highlighted the innovative initiatives that he has championed over the past 14 years in an endeavor to improve the delivery of breast healthcare in India by replicating the best of British practices, thus serving as a “living bridge” between UK and India.
Establishing the Country’s first free standing purpose built Breast Centre at KIMS Hospitals in Hyderabad, spearheading Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit Breast cancer Foundation in his mother’s name who survived breast cancer and playing a pivotal role in formation of The Association of Breast Surgeons of India, which is South Asia’s first & only dedicated Society for surgeons practicing breast surgery in the Country, are but a few landmark initiatives that he has touched upon during this Lecture.
He emphasized that to replicate these well-established UK concepts in India despite many resource constraints and bringing about disruptive changes to breast healthcare in India, has well and truly been a challenging experience for well over a decade.
The ASGBI has placed Dr Raghu Ram’s Guest Lecture under the special category “On Demand Session”, which can be viewed by delegates any number of times and is available on the Conference platform for the upcoming three months.
